ansel picks an apple | celebrating one year of life

If you came to my house today and took a look around, you would see my walls covered in photos.  Many, MANY of those photos were taken by my dear friend Davey.  Davey photographed me in a field of flowers on the side of a highway nearly 11 years ago as a 19 year old bride.  This was way back before photos like that were a thing.  He indulged my creative side and has been following my family around ever since snapping some of our sweetest moments for us.

A little more than a year ago, I got to be there for the birth of Davey and Marissa’s son Ansel.  And I’ve had the honor of documenting much of his first year of life.

For his one year pictures we took Ansel to pick his first apple.  It was one of the few, non rainy fall days we’ve had this year and that little boy was just full of wonder and curiosity as he surveyed the hundreds of “balls” on the ground.

Davey and Marissa lost their first baby to miscarriage.  I have watched Marissa work through grief and her desire to be a mother.  So I have just melted going through the pictures of her holding Ansel.  I can just hear the contented sigh and see the thankfulness brimming from her bright eyes.

So thankful for this family and their intertwining into the threads of our lives.

Happy first year of life sweet Ansel!

enjoying myers | the pridmore family

Our dear friends are the sweetest parents.  Watching them around their son Myers just fills my heart up with joy, because their joy and delight is undeniable.  Their joy is contagious. When I asked Megan what she was wanting as far as pictures go, she said, "I just want action pictures of us enjoying him toddling about".  It was such a free flowing session and I am in love with the images we captured.

the owen's family | rock hill, sc

6 months ago, I changed up my business in an effort to be able to fully invest in my clients and their sessions the way I longed to.  This session really confirmed that it was the right move for me.  Last month I drove down to South Carolina to photograph the Owen's family.  I was able to visit and casually shoot throughout the afternoon and was able to sit down to a simple, delicious grilled dinner with them afterwards as we chatted about motherhood, loss, working from home and the beauty in it all.

This family has endured more loss than I feel my heart could take, but yet they choose gratefulness and they choose to envelope their son Page in love as they keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Page has a big sister, Martha, who passed away at just a few months old.  This house was scattered with pictures of her joyful, gummy smile and her deep, wise eyes.  Martha is often remembered with pinwheels and purple which we incorporated into some of the family pictures.

These images stir up something inside of me...a deep longing to treasure up all the moments as this family does.
